Polymer Application Engineer | Amsted Rail Granite City | Granite City, IL 62040
Amsted Rail Company is the world's leading manufacturer of undercarriage
rail car components for heavy haul freight rail cars. We have an
immediate open in our Granite City facility for a Polymer Application
Engineer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in identifying new polymer
applications for the freight and track market.
- Support Sales in development of
potential new polymer applications. This will mainly involve
discussions with customer engineering and/or ASF cost estimating on
specifics of manufacturability and functionality.
- Evaluate and analyze part design
prints and develop tool designs meeting customer requirements.
- Identify material selections for
existing and new applications.
- Lead product launch on all new
polymer applications which includes processing and inspection of all
samples and prototypes to meet customer requirements and due dates.
- Review, modify, and approve tool
designs using computer aided drafting, solid works, etc.
- Provide tool and die engineering
and processing technical support customers and supply base.
- Ensure tooling modifications and
designs meet quality, productivity, and cost requirements.
- Assist current supply base in
troubleshooting existing issues and identifying continuous improvements
opportunities.
- Interface with tooling suppliers providing
feedback on new and existing design applications.
- Assists in the investigation and analysis of new
materials, equipment and processes.
- Ability to travel up to 40%.
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- B.S. Degree in Polymer and/or
Plastics Engineering, Materials Engineering, or equivalent field of
study.
- Minimum 10 years manufacturing
and process engineering including 5+ years in development of new plastic
injection, compression or extrusion molding processes.
- Proficient in Solid Works or any
other design related software.
- Good interpersonal, verbal, and
written communications skills.

accomplished.
